As an individual seeking Project Management accreditation, knowing the best route to effective training can be difficult. Below you will find a number of Project Management training options available to you.
Generic PM training
Generic training will provide you with a good understanding of what Project Management is and the key elements, in terms of People and Process skills, in managing projects, programmes and the risks within them.
APM
APM certification provides you with the knowledge to be able to apply a ‘framework’ to managing projects resulting in a more formal approach to Project Management. This framework, focused towards the APM’s Body of Knowledge is largely recognised within the UK and Europe.
This may be a suitable route if you work for an organisation that operates within the UK and has little process formality in managing projects.
PMI®
PMI® certification provides individuals with the knowledge (and recognises their practical experience to date) to be able to apply a ‘framework’ to managing projects resulting in a more formal approach to Project Management. This framework, focused towards the PMI®’s Body of Knowledge is recognised globally and is used both in the UK, Europe, USA and the Far East as well as within many other regions/countries.
This may be a suitable route if you work for a global organisation with presence throughout the world where you will need to communicate in a common language when managing Projects.
PRINCE2®
PRINCE2® certification is the award given to those individuals who demonstrate varying levels of knowledge to be able to practice implementing PRINCE2®, a prescribed methodology. PRINCE2® is well known within UK and Europe and works well in IT departments or for those organisations requiring a governed Project Management process.
